With 2024 coming to a close, it is time to reflect on the year in music in an easily digestible list…or at least easy for my standards. A Top 10 list combining albums, songs, artists, trends and moments because there were some things that were just too good to ignore. This is the Best Music of 2024.

In this ranking video, we will break down what I felt were the best, most important and my favorite things that helped define the year in music / pop culture.

2024 was one of the most eventful and impactful music years of my life — it is up there with 2016. New stars like Shaboozey, Chappell Roan & Sabrina Carpenter (kind of) are staking their claim to the throne of pop music on Billboard. Rap beef took center stage and changed the careers of all involved. Over a decade into her career, Charli xcx delivered the defining pop culture moment and aesthetic of the year. Beyoncé continues to push boundaries, reminding us that no one does it better. As for Kanye—whether he’s fallen off or not depends on who you ask (he might be washed, chat). Oh yeah and Taylor Swift dropped a dud (quality-wise lol).

In this ranking, I cover more than just my favorite albums and songs of the year. I dive into Playboi Carti’s rise as the leader of Rolling Loud and the voice of the youth, share my thoughts on Gracie Abrams and her music, and admit why I was wrong about Chappell Roan. Plus, there are a few (come on!) lighthearted jokes at J. Cole’s expense for dropping out of the great rap civil war. Oh, and let’s not forget some quality commentary on the Costco Guys, The Rizzler, and why their viral hit — and its remix — feels so special.
