
This comes as Pope Francis died from a cerebral stroke early on Easter Monday.
“Look, he had an activist streak if you’d like, that was unlike any other Pope, he was against pollution, he was against, you know, he was very strong on climate change, he got in a bit of a fight with JD Vance, I think at one point, about America’s immigration rules, that was all very un-Pope like,” Mr Carlyon said.
“At the same time, he sort, he failed to satisfy either the conservatives, who he was never going to please, but he didn’t please the progressives within the Church.
“He was a mixed bag … he was quick to smile, he had a light weight about him, he certainly internationalised the Church in a lot of ways.”
