"The Long and Winding Road" is a song by The Beatles from their 1970 album Let It Be. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. In May 1970, a month after the band's breakup, it was released as a single and became the group's final number-one hit on the Billboard chart in the United States.
Producer Phil Spector added orchestral and choral overdubs, but his modifications angered McCartney. As a result, McCartney ultimately took the case to the High Court of England to dissolve The Beatles' legal partnership, citing the treatment of this song as one of six reasons for the breakup. Later versions with simpler instrumentation were subsequently released by The Beatles.
