The words "Funk" and "Funky" are widely used in everyday language. However what exactly is Funk Music? As a musical genre it is a close relative to many other styles. Soul, Jazz and Psych Rock of the late 1960s were huge influences on the Funk musicians of the 1970s and 1980s making them the likely parents. When you hear Disco and Fusion Jazz you can immediately tell they are the siblings. Funk has had many children over the past 40 years including Hip-Hop, Dubstep and Afro Jazz. The easiest way to identify a Funk song is by the percussive groove the drums and bass guitar are laying down. If you feel the rhythm and have an uncontrollable urge to move your body...it's probably Funk.
