In this episode I am going over a stripped down version of the iconic conga groove in the song Rosanna by Toto. The living legend Lenny Castro provides a lot of soul sauce on this one. In the original recording Lenny Castro adds more open notes, ghost notes, and variations than what I am presenting in this video. This will help provide a base for those wanting to learn this style and perhaps provide some inspiration for those who may be more advanced. Once you understand and “master” the foundation of this groove it can be applied to many different scenarios. It is important to remember that in addition to memorizing a rhythm or beat it is more effective to understand what makes it tick in order to make it yours. By “making it yours” I mean having the ability to create a number of variations from one rhythm in order to best serve a song. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.
