Crashing my FPV Drone off a Cliff! 🥲🫣
Back in the summer I was flying up at Northern Ireland’s famous Giant’s Causeway coastline with my 7 inch FPV drone and when lining up a shot, I misjudged the height I need to drop my throttle to surf the side of the cliff down the mountain. The drone subsequently fell to the bottom of the 200ft cliff and I decided to (stupidly) go and get it 💪🚁
The cliff had no path down to the shore and I had no idea if the drone has crashed into the sea or was maybe at the bottom of the shoreline. The chances were super slim, but I decided to try and scale down the cliff face anyway 🧗
Looking back it was a very silly thing to do. One wrong step and I would’ve fell down the side of the cliff. The video of course doesn’t properly showcase how steep it really was, and the ground beneath me was gravel that kept breaking loose 🫠🫣
BUT it all paid off as I suddenly heard the beeper from the drone going off and within a few mins I managed to make it safely to the shore and find the drone - who was totally fine other than 2 broken arms. Both the GoPro 11 and the rest of the drones components lived to tell the tale - totally unharmed which was incredible given the height they’d fallen 😮
As an FPV pilot, whilst I often show the best clips and upsides of my hobby - however is the reality of flying FPV drones - the Crashes, rescue missions, lost drones, footage etc. Every pilot goes through it and has to deal with it. But I like to go by ‘No Drone left behind’ 💪🫡 😆 (unless it’s in the sea 😂🌊)
All in all it would’ve been about a £1000 loss if I hadn’t have rescued it, and I think if it happened again, I’d go after then too 🙌
