It was time to pot them on as they had outgrown their modules and going a bit leggy 🦵 I grow this variety of golden cherry tomato every year as it is so tasty! One of the best 👍
It’s also very reliable, early to crop, long season, robust in less than perfect weather and even more resistant to blight than many other varieties. The downside? It’s an F1 hybrid, meaning it’s been bred to have all these excellent characteristics. But it also means you can’t expect to get a ‘true’ version of the tomato plant from saved seeds...
Meaning I had to buy a new packet this year ☝️ Still worth growing, especially for a beginner. But I had another golden cherry recommended to me this year called Sunviva. It’s apparently a rival to Sungold on flavour and is part of an open resource seed initiative where sharing of its seeds is encouraged as it is an open pollinated variety.
We shall see how it compares! So far Sungold is at 100% germination with identical seedlings, Sunviva isn’t 😆 But if the flavour holds up, I might not buy another pack of the hybrid seeds ever again!
