Lean thinking and management has developed as an alternative to traditional ways of managing projects and operations. In the last 30 years, the construction industry has made big strides in adapting lean product development and manufacturing practices to construction. The latest report from Construction Industry Institute (CII) Final Report 341 on Integrated Industrial Project Delivery provides fresh motivation for us to consider applying lean holistically for the purpose of achieving superior project outcomes.

Anand Nicodemus, Fluor’s Lean Sensei, and Jayne Nichols, Fluor’s Lean Coach, discuss the motivation for applying lean methods and integrated project delivery, define the paradigm shift and describe the characteristics of Lean / IPD with real examples.
