On March 29, 2021 (Sol 37), NASA’s Perseverance Rover captured an image of a peculiar rock that appears to be a meteoriteThe rover stumbled upon this rock while it is in the process of deploying the mars helicopter
It will examine the rock using a combination of a laser, a camera and spectrometers mounted at the end of its robotic arm
It captured this image using its Left Mastcam-Z camera
This is a raw image from the rover, not color-processed
The rock is quite different from others found in the same area
No official statement or confirmation was given by NASA at the time of making this video
If it turns out to be a meteorite, then it will be Perseverance’s first meteorite encounter.
