This is a Rockumentary directed and produced by Sam Mortley. A true Indie rock / Shoegaze fanatic from Plymouth, England. A lot of this information is provided via the 'Verve - A Storm In Heaven' deluxe box set that Virgin Records released in 2016.

The Verve were the first band that legendary Tape Op/ Engineer/Mixer and Producer John Leckie actually begged to work with after seeing them live was like a spiritual ritual for him. John Leckie was the man who brought them down to the deepest depths of the south west to record their debut album, after the Gravity Grave EP was mixed there. Leckie had previously worked with The Stone Roses at the same location in 1989 where 'Fools Gold' was famously recorded. The Verve's early EP's are definitely worth checking out. 'She's A Superstar' and 'Gravity Grave were recorded with the band members stood inside an empty swimming pool whilst being on acid at The Manor in Oxfordshire to help add natural ambience to the sound.

Includes an interview from John Cornfield who worked as assistant engineer to Leckie

This album would see The Verve at their dreamiest, with Richard Ashcroft's vocals caressed in a reverberated mist whilst Nick McCabe's guitar is performing a firework display of sonic sorcery. Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury deliver a funky hypnotic groove that never wants to end, behind all of this. For me, The Verve went with a very dry sound for their sophomore album 'A Northern Soul' with Ashcroft's solo acoustic ballads starting to creep in on songs like 'On Your Own' and 'History'. But their commercial breakthrough album 'Urban Hymns' brought back more of that wet, shimmery Shoegazey goodness albeit, coupled with a more forthright and swagger-like Richard Ashcroft. Tracks like 'Catching The Butterfly' , 'The Rolling People' and 'Come On!' still showcase the band at their jamming best. 'Neon Wilderness' is a great ambient interlude that could've come straight from the band's earliest work. Therefore, despite of it's blockbuster status that it's known for, it is still a fantastic album.
