Kristoffer Kristofferson (1936 – 2024) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He was born in Brownsville, Texas, the family relocated to San Mateo, California during his childhood and he was briefly drafted into military service in the early 1960s. Kristofferson was a pioneering figure in the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, moving away from the polished Nashville sound and toward a more raw, introspective style. He was renowned for his legendary songwriting and compositions, some of his most famous songs include "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which became hits for other artists.
He studied literature at Pomona College and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1958, which allowed him to attend Merton College at University of Oxford in England. This educational background played a crucial role in shaping his ability to express deep emotions and address social issues, significantly influencing both his life and his music.
He was married three times and fathered a total of eight children. His final performance took place at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in 2023, and he passed away at the age of 88 at his home in Hana, Hawaii, in 2024.

"For the Good Times" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson, first recorded by Bill Nash in 1968 before appearing on Kristofferson's own debut album in 1970. After a recording by Ray Price became a hit single, the song established Kristofferson as one of country and popular music's top songwriters while giving Price his first chart-topping country and western song in 11 years.
"For the Good Times" continued to be recorded by a number of artists.
