🎼 About the Composer – Wojciech Długoraj (c. 1557 – after 1619)
Wojciech Długoraj, also known as Albert or Adalbert Długoraj (Gostinensis), was a distinguished Polish lutenist and Renaissance composer, born in Gostyń in the Greater Poland region. He served at the court of Samuel Zborowski and later at the court of King Stephen Báthory. His music is part of the Polonica tradition – works connected to Polish musical identity that gained wide popularity across Europe in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Some scholars speculate that certain compositions attributed to Długoraj – including “Finale” – may have been mistakenly or imprecisely assigned to him by editors of the time.

His life was surrounded by mystery and scandal: after fleeing the tyrannical Zborowski, he presented the king with evidence of his patron's treason, which led to Zborowski’s execution. Fearing retaliation from the powerful Zborowski family, Długoraj was forced to flee to Germany.

🎶 About the Piece “Finale”
“Finale” is a short lute composition found in Thesaurus Harmonicus by Jean-Baptiste Besard (1603), where it appears as a postludium – a light, improvisatory-style piece that concludes a musical set. Though traditionally attributed to Długoraj, some researchers suggest that the authorship may be uncertain, possibly the result of imprecise attributions in Renaissance anthologies.
