Distorted Reality 2 is the sequel to Spectrasonics' famous Distorted Reality sample CD (1995) and was released in 1998. Even though it couldn't match the enormous success of its predecessor, the sample library became an absolute milestone (especially) in video games. You can hear spherical pads, heavily processed rhythm loops, and unique sound effects in countless video games from its release to the present day. Games such as Silent Hill 2 (and other parts), Spyro 2 & 3, Ratchet & Clank, The Legend of Zelda, Portal, Metroid Prime, Time Splitters, Rayman, and many many more. Since DR1, Spectrasonics' production of new sounds has radically evolved. The samples on DR2 were no longer developed solely through outboard processing and vintage synths. Up to 50% of the library was processed entirely in computers. Eric Persing (founder of Spectrasonics) writes in the booklet: "I had a great deal of fun combining these brand new techniques with all our vintage tricks. This library shows a glimpse of what is now possible, and we hope it will inspire you for many years to come." In my opinion, he was absolutely right. The sounds of Spectrasonics have accompanied many people like me through their childhood...and transported us to strange, exciting and fantastical worlds.
