‘Gouverneur of the Coco Island’, tells the true story of one of the last treasure hunters of the 19th century. Infected by gold fever, August Gissler spent 17 years searching for the lost treasures of the pirate captains Thompson and Bonito on the Coco Islands - unsuccessful and penniless, he was finally forced to give up this adventure. His biography bears witness to a bygone world in which his name was supposed to stand alongside those of Charles Bellamy and Captain Kidd. ‘Gouverneur of the Coco Island’ is his story. About hopes, an iron will, a spirit of adventure and discovery. And about the cruel failure of a dream.
