Agape - Agape ,Gospel Hard Rock (USA 1971)

Between the end of the 60's and the beginning of the 70's in California (and other parts of the States), there was a great musical ferment, with various lysergic branches and freaks that flourished like mushrooms in the numerous hippie communes. Among these there were also religious communities, which gave rise to the Xian rock trend, groups of freaks, who from morning to night dedicated themselves to prayer, acid consumption and music.
From these movements emerged excellent groups (which for obvious reasons remained semi-unknown), such as Agape, Azitis, Search Party, Morly Grey, Fraction (these last ones probably the best of all), and dozens of others.
Aside from the somewhat "heartbreaking" lyrics, which quoted passages from the Bible and praised the Lord, musically they were truly excellent. The Agape discussed here blended excellent blues rock with jazzy and psychedelic passages (a must in those places and in those years).by Jo Van Knee


I start publishing some albums from the Italian label Hablalabel, which at the end of the eighties published/republished around twenty albums, each more beautiful and particular than the last!
Here is the first release, later reissued on CD in 1994, but I have never seen it around. However I was never able to find their second album from 1972 and this regrets me...“A well-known item even 20 years ago, though now it’s been surpassed by many recent discoveries in its genre, which is Christian psych/hard rock with a Hendrix/Blue Cheer vibe. Suffers from a rather stiff sound and lyrics that are upfront/preachy the wrong way,but has a couple of good tracks, and an appealing spoken apocalyptic section on the closer.
