Bill Black, Elvis's slap-bass player and so much more. In 1962, Billboard awarded his band the Bill Black Combo - Most-Played Instrumental Group.
Bill Black, along with guitarist Scotty Moore, played on all five of Elvis's Sun Records singles. In fact, the artist credit on all five singles was Elvis, Scotty and Bill. Bill was also in Elvis's touring band, The Blue Moon Boys.
Bill set up the Bill Black Combo and between 1959 and 1962 they scored 8 hits on the Billboard Top-40.
Sadly, his health deteriorated in the early 1960s and he died on 21 October 1965.
