Madchester was a sound that fused dance beats with rock and funk to create ecstatic music. Any band of similar style that came from outside Manchester (Jesus Jones, EMF, The Farm, The Charlatans) were referred to as BAGGY. Baggy was the broader geographic term for Madchester. The Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Northside, James, The Charlatans, early Blur, The Farm, Primal Scream, The Mock Turtles and The Stone Roses are all examples of Madchester/ baggy bands. They all tried to capture the E's and acidic spirit of the infamous Manchester nighclub , The Hacienda. They were bands with guitars, drums and drum machines that tried to replicate the feeling of the Acid Scene, only they did it in a band context with manual instruments. Songs often feature the "Forbidden beat" which is the Funky Drummer sample taken from Clyde Stubblesfield, the drummer for one fo the Godfathers of Funk, James Brown. This is the story of FOOLS GOLD
