To get this marvellous crop I had to protect them from the allium leaf miner... had it very bad on my plot last year. They got some of my garlic and onion, but all of my leeks 😩
So I’m growing all my alliums under mesh this year. From my readings this is the only thing that works! Unless there are already pupae in the soil...
For that reason the alliums are either growing in new beds or where no alliums have grown in the last two years. I’m also not using homemade compost on those beds as a mulch in case there are some pupae in there.
