After a smooth flight, I’ve finally landed in North Korea, and the experience has been nothing short of surreal. As I stepped off the plane and entered Pyongyang Airport, I couldn’t take my eyes off the Ил-62 (IL-62) we flew in on – a rare, antique aircraft you simply don’t see anymore. This was an Air Koryo aircraft, instantly recognizable by its distinctive livery and the logo on the tail. Air Koryo is the national airline of North Korea, with the text on the fuselage displaying the airline's name written in both English ("AIR KORYO") and Korean ("고려항공"), which translates to "Koryo Airlines." Through the terminal windows, I got a clear and mesmerizing view of the plane in all its glory. From the moment I boarded, everything felt like a step back in time. The flight featured North Korean communist music themes, stunningly dressed stewardesses, and in-flight magazines filled with images of Kim Jong Un. Every detail added to the unique atmosphere, making this journey an unforgettable start to my time in North Korea.
