It's time for another nature escape and this weekend, we are doing a bit of glamping in New Brunswick! This summer we've been going in search of fun and easy getaways from Fredericton, and one of the places we came across is this cute tiny house on the Saint John River (🏡 🏡) complete with a hammock, BBQ, an outdoor terrace and access to the water. This tiny house is located in Upper Kingsclear, just a short drive from King's Landing, so we tacked that on as an afternoon activity (and no, this has nothing to do with Game of Thrones!) King’s Landing is a living open-air museum where you can walk through a village and experience what life was like in rural New Brunswick back in the 1800s. How it works is that you get a map at the entrance with the layout of the village, and then you have the freedom to explore at your own pace, going in and out of the different buildings and meeting the various characters going on about their day.

The best part really is chatting with the villagers because they are interpreting real stories from the past, and they will not break character! Over the course of our visit we met the local choir practising ahead of the church service, we learned some of the town gossip while visiting the blacksmith in his workshop, and we attempted being lumberjacks to saw a tree.

Our adventure begins in Upper Kingsclear, just 20 minutes from Fredericton, where we check into a super cozy tiny house by the water. We give you the full tour: a plush bed, panoramic forest views, a cute kitchenette with local touches (including Canadian-invented ketchup chips!), and thoughtful details from our welcoming hosts. The living space may be small, but it’s packed with charm—plus, there’s a deck for evening beers, a hammock for lazy naps, and a unique outhouse featuring creative artwork, privacy, and even inspiration for your next bathroom break!

Life on the Water: Dockside Living & Summer Sunsets 🌅🛶

With the river just steps away, we spend our time soaking up the peaceful waterfront: enjoying craft beer and blueberry cider, relaxing on the deck, firing up the grill for a simple barbecue, and watching a magical sunset paint the sky with soft pastels. We chat about summer in Canada—how evenings transform the heat into cool breezes, and how every sunset feels like a new masterpiece.

King’s Landing: Step Back to the 1800s 🎩🕰️

Next up, we transport you to King’s Landing, an immersive open-air museum that re-creates rural New Brunswick life in the 1800s. We hop on a wagon ride into the heart of the village, grab a table at King’s Head Inn for classic fish and chips (plus gigantic onion rings and gingerbread cake), and cool down with homemade lemonade. Exploring at our own pace, we meet “villagers” who never break character—sharing town gossip, fishing along the river, and giving us hands-on demos at the blacksmith, sawmill, and grist mill. We stock up on old-fashioned candies and licorice pipes at Grant’s Store and get a lumberjack lesson from a friendly local.

Tiny House Evenings: Grill Master, Ketchup Chips & Craft Beer 🍻🔥

Back at our tiny house, it’s time for dinner al fresco: we grill up beef souvlaki skewers, snack on iconic Canadian ketchup chips, and relax with a couple of local craft brews while soaking up the stillness of summer by the water. There’s laughter, great food, and plenty of time to simply sit, talk, and watch the colors change in the sky.

Morning by the Water: Blueberry Breakfast & Local Life 🫐🌞

We wake up to a serene riverside breakfast featuring cereal, Greek yogurt, and juicy organic blueberries from our family friend Gary’s garden. The water is perfectly still, the only sounds are birdsong, and the vibe is pure relaxation. Even after a single night, it feels like we’ve fully recharged.
