Bonded rubber mulch is a safety surface commonly found in playgrounds and play areas. It is created from recycled forklift truck tyres that are shredded to appear like wood bark chippings. These metal-free rubber shreds are then bonded together with a polyurethane resin.
Rubber Mulch safety surfacing encapsulates recycled tyre rubber in a tough PU polymer coloured pigment. Once cured the pigments and coating are both non-toxic and inert which makes them perfect for areas with children. Mulch surfacing requires minimal groundwork preparation and can be installed directly onto grass or existing surfacing which often means it is suitable for restricted budgets. It is the perfect solution for areas which excavation can be an issue such as areas densely populated with trees, we have completed many tree surround projects with rubber mulch.
When installed onto a dynamic base (stone or soil) this contributes to the Critical Fall Height considerably, this means greater fall heights can be achieved with less thickness than other safety surfacing.
Tested to the requirements of BS EN1177:2008, Bonded Rubber Mulch meets the standard to reduce risk of injury for children’s heads, legs, arms, shoulders and backs, making this a great choice for playgrounds.
