Level 1: Good Tomato Pasta
Ingredients:
- (1 serving) Regular Spaghetti
- (4 cups) Salted Water
- (1 tbsp) Olive Oil
- (1 1/2 tbsp) Slivered Garlic
- (2 cups) Marinara Sauce
- (1/2 cup) Pasta Water
Boil your spaghetti in generously salted water. Add some olive oil to a pan over low heat before adding in your garlic to sweat before removing from the heat.
Add your marinara sauce to your garlic and olive oil and return it to low heat to cook off that "jarred" taste. Add your al dente pasta to your sauce with a little pasta water to get those noodles evenly coated.
This is great, but we can kick it up a notch.
Level 2: Homemade 5-Minute Tomato Pasta
Ingredients:
- (1 serving) Good Pasta
- (4 cups) Water
- (1 tbsp) Olive Oil
- (1 1/2 tbsp) Slivered Garlic
- (1/2 cup) Cherry Tomatoes
- (1/2 cup) Yellow Grape Tomatoes
- (1 tbsp) Organic Tomato Paste
- (1/2 cup) Pasta Water
Get yourself some good pasta and cook in salted water for about 5 minutes or so. Add some olive oil and slivered garlic to a pot over low heat to sweat.
Half your cherry and grape tomatoes and add them to the pot with some organic tomato paste. Cook for a couple of minutes before adding some pasta water and turning the heat up to cook for 4-5 minutes.
Add in your pasta and let everything marry together before plating and serving.
Level 3: Out Of This World Pasta
Ingredients:
- (1 serving) Fusilli Col Buco
- (4 cups) Water
- (1 tbsp) Olive Oil
- (1/2 tbsp) Slivered Garlic
- (1 1/2 cups) Tomato Sauce
- (1/2 tbsp) Lemon Zest
- (1/4 cup) Ricotta Cheese
- (1/2 cup) Pasta Water
Make sure you're getting a really nice, fun pasta for this recipe, and don't you dare break those noodles in half. Add to salted, boiling water and cook until al dente.
To a pan over low heat, add olive oil, slivered garlic, and sweat but don't let it brown. Add your favorite tomato sauce and continue to cook over low heat and add a little bit of pepper.
Cut the heat and add a little pasta water, ricotta cheese, and lemon zest before adding in your pasta. Add pasta water as needed until you're happy with the sauce.
Garnish with fresh basil and enjoy.
Pasta doesn't need to be expensive or take hours and hours to make. There are simple techniques that can elevate the whole meal and not break the bank.
Just remember to have fun with it.
