Sky News host James Macpherson has responded to Chrystia Freeland's “strange” story about an “imagined toddler”, calling the encounter a “lie”.

The former deputy prime minister is running to replace Justin Trudeau after he announced his retirement earlier this year.

During the Liberal leadership debate, Ms Freeland claimed a four-year-old girl named Ari asked if the Canadian politician could ‘stop Trump’ from invading the country.

“Ah, four-year-olds always worried about geopolitics,” Mr Macpherson joked.

“What I find strange is that Freeland’s imagined toddler didn’t ask about her government freeing truckers' bank accounts during the pandemic.

“Maybe the kid had to go poop, or perhaps the four-year-old only started talking politics after realising the former deputy PM was never going to be any good at playing dolls.

“Chrystia Freeland’s story of inspiration from a four-year-old is a lie, as anyone who has met a four-year-old will tell you.”
