Susan Smith deliberately killed her sons, but the question remains, what drives a mother to murder her own children?

On October 25th, 1994, Susan Smith looked at her sons, Michael and Alex strapped in the car but before releasing the parking brake she left the car and watched her children drown in a lake. Susan Smith claimed it was a black man who kidnapped her children at gunpoint which would soon turn out to be a lie. For nine days, she made dramatic pleas on national television for their safe return. However, following an intensive investigation and a nationwide search for them, she confessed on November 3rd, 1994, to letting her car roll into the lake drowning them inside. Share this story:
