Hundreds of protesters angry over crippling power outages continued demonstrating in Pakistan on Tuesday by blocking a key highway. The blockade is disrupting bilateral trade with neighbouring China and forcing visitors to take longer routes to access the region.

"This is a nerve-breaking power outage in Hunza. We are getting power only 30-40 minutes in 24 hours. It is very cold here. The temperature drops to minus 15 at night. Students don’t have internet due to the power outage. There are issues in lighting, heating and cooking that people are facing here," said protester Baba Jan.

Power cuts, locally called load shedding, are common in Pakistan. The Karakoram Highway, built through towering mountains with China's help, links northern Pakistan with western China.
