Welcome to the Dr. Patricia Bath Residence. Thank you to the current homeowner, Dr. Eraka Bath, for preserving the history of this home.

Dr. Patricia Bath was an American ophthalmologist, inventor, humanitarian, and academic. She pioneered laser cataract surgery, was the first woman member of the Jules Stein Eye Institute, and the first African-American resident in ophthalmology at NYU. Bath was also the first African-American woman surgeon at UCLA Medical Center and the first to receive a patent for a medical purpose. She founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness. Dr. Bath bought this property in 1977, hosting events for a global village of artists, healthcare professionals, and political heavyweights like Mervyn Dymally, Tom Bradley, and Maxine Waters.
