Adult squash bugs can lay up to 250 eggs 😮

They lay eggs in clusters of ~15-20 and they can be found on the top or bottom of leaves. Females might also lay eggs on nearby plants so make sure to check them as well!

Eggs hatch in about 10 days and the nymphs take 4-6 weeks to get to full size.

I’ve found that the best way to control the squash bug population in your garden is to check for eggs once a week!

While you’re checking for eggs, also keep an eye out for nymphs that may have already hatched. They typically are in large groups and look like tiny spiders when they first hatch. You can spray them with soapy water!

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.

We upload a YouTube video every Saturday night at 7️⃣pm EST, and post daily on Instagram!
