How will Donald Trump’s bans for transgender people play out?

The US president has signed an executive order which is intended to stop transgender women from competing in women’s sports.

“With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” Mr Trump declared at a signing ceremony.

The order directs America’s federal government agencies to change their handling of Title IX, a civil rights measure that was passed into law in the 1970s.

Mr Trump has pushed through numerous executive orders impacting trans Americans since his inauguration, saying it’s about “protection”.

But there’s another big reason for his crackdown. Here, US reporter Sam Clench explains why.
