Everything we did to try to make this meeting as seamless as possible:1. Leading up to his baby sister’s arrival, we continually told our son that “his baby” was coming soon.
2. When he came into the hospital room, the baby was off to the side in a bassinet instead of in my arms.
3. I put all of my attention on him initially and invited him into the bed before talking about the baby.
4. We put photos of him in the baby’s bassinet to make him feel included in the excitement.
5. After he held her, we finished off with a family hug to let him know we are all a unit.
Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all smooth sailing after this. 🥲 It took about four weeks for him to fully adjust to our new life at home. He went through lots of ups and downs and separation anxiety, but has been so nice to his baby sister through it all. 🤍
