Description:

What if I told you that some places in Europe feel like they're part of a different country entirely?

In this video, we explore two unique European regions where cultural identity transcends national borders:
🇷🇴 Harghita and Covasna in Romania, home to the Székely — an ethnic Hungarian community with deep roots in the Austro-Hungarian Empire
🇮🇹 South Tyrol in Italy, where 70% speak German, and the landscape and culture are more Alpine than Mediterranean.

From historical treaties like the Treaty of Trianon to modern autonomy movements, discover how history shaped these fascinating identity-rich enclaves.

What if I told you that some regions in Europe feel more like another country?
This region in Romania, mostly covered by the counties of Harghita and Covasna, is home to a Hungarian-speaking majority, over 85% in many areas. These are the Székely, a group that was once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
After the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, Transylvania was transferred to Romania, turning over a million Hungarians into a national minority overnight.
Moving west to South Tyrol, Italy, around 70% of the population speaks German. This region was also part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and was annexed by Italy after World War I. It was later granted autonomy to preserve its Germanic heritage.
Do you know of other similar regions?
