At the end of last week, Jackie held down the fort for nearly 46 hours of nest duty, keeping their eggs covered and warm as she endured a two day wet, snowy winter storm. Shadow stayed in a favorite roost tree nearby, answered if she called and even showed up once to see if she needed a break but she denied.

Her first break came after the storm on Valentine's morning, when Shadow arrived with a big heartfelt gift for his sweetheart… a breakfish! Shadow was so close to her on his landing that the tail of the fish slapped down right on top of Jackie's tail! By her loud vocals, Jackie seemed happy to see him… and the fish! She wasted no time gobbling it down while Shadow waited patiently to see if he'd get his turn on the eggs. And so it was so! He just loves to please his lady and loves his egg time!

Jackie headed to the Simba Tree, cleaned her talons, feaked her beak and had a quick crop drop snack. She hopped around flapping her wings intensely to dry them, much like an excited young eaglet “wingersizes” when they are just discovering their wings!

Later that afternoon, Jackie was tucked in taking a nap when Shadow dropped in with another little gift… more fluff! She seemed content, but not enough to get up, so he decided maybe a beakful of fluff on her back would do the trick. He scattered the rest around her and it made a mess. Silly Shadow! She grabbed a beakful off her back and swallowed it. Hmmm, maybe she was hungry.

The next morning, Jackie had her head tucked and was quietly napping. Suddenly, Shadow landed next to her head with another big fistful of fluff. Yes, it was a surprise for Jackie, but also he hoped for more Daddy duty! Without hesitation, he took a big bite of fluff in his beak and placed it on her back. He proceeded to go to work, spreading the rest perfectly around her as she lay in the nest. Oh and he may have just miscalculated his steps a tiny bit (or not) when he casually walked over her back while on his mission to spread the fluff. Turns out this strategy was a winner!
