Khwai and Moremi Game Reserve, located in the heart of Botswana's Okavango Delta, offer a pristine and captivating glimpse into Africa's untamed wilderness. The Khwai region, with its lush floodplains and meandering river, serves as a vital wildlife corridor, attracting an abundance of animals including elephants, hippos, and a dazzling array of bird species. Adjacent to Khwai, Moremi Game Reserve is renowned for its diverse ecosystems, ranging from dense mopane forests to expansive lagoons and savannahs. This protected area is a haven for iconic African wildlife, such as lions, leopards, and the endangered African wild dog. Together, Khwai and Moremi present an unparalleled safari experience, where visitors can witness the raw beauty and intricate balance of nature in one of the continent's most breathtaking landscapes.

Our filmmaker Robert Hofmeyr shared insights from his two-week journey through the Khwai concession and Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana: “Nestled along the Khwai River, Moremi Game Reserve spans the eastern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Despite Khwai not being a national park, the absence of fences around Moremi allows wildlife to move freely between these areas. During the dry season in August, our focus was on the Khwai River and Third Bridge regions, renowned for their abundant wildlife, especially wild dogs and leopards. Capturing the wild dogs on film was particularly challenging due to their relentless movement while hunting.

We used a Blackmagic Ursa 12K paired with a Canon 200-400mm lens, although we missed the pre-record function available on Red cameras. A standout moment was witnessing a pack of wild dogs with their pups near Third Bridge in Moremi. Additionally, we had the unique experience of filming from a mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe, using a DJI RS2 for stability and a wide-angle lens to capture the breathtaking scenery.”
