“Mozart is sunshine,” observed Dvorák, but there are clouds on the horizon as two sassy Salzburg concertos yield to the heaving maelstrom of Tchaikovsky’s troubled symphony.
Mozart Violin Concerto No.1
Mozart Violin Concerto No.4
Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4
Conductor/ Violin Nikolaj Znaider

Transcript:
It’s been six years since the London Symphony Orchestra played at Colston Hall. And it’s going to be worth the wait. As one of the world’s finest ensembles, they’ll be wrapping their musical muscle around a true symphonic masterpiece – Tchaikovsky’s stirring Fourth Symphony. Written when the Russian composer was at his lowest ebb, he regarded it as his finest work. Each movement is a gem, from the opening bleak fate motif hammered out by the brass, to the yearning slow movement, extraordinary pizzicato scherzo and one of music’s most thrilling finales.

Wielding the baton will be Nikolaj Znaider, who’s also one of true greats of the violin world, bringing a deft touch to two of the most elegant and charming concertos in the whole repertoire, Mozart’s First and Fourth Violin Concertos.
