Puerto Madryn Seafood Feast 🦐 | Best Things to Do, Museum of the Man & the Sea, and Beach Walk Vlog 🇦🇷
🌅 Good Morning from Puerto Madryn! | First Full Day Exploring the City 🏖️🚌
We kicked off our first full day in Puerto Madryn, feeling excited to finally explore the city itself! After days packed with excursions, we were pumped to discover what makes this Patagonian coastal town so special. Our plan? See the main attractions, feast on world-famous Argentine seafood, stroll the beach, and soak up all the local vibes.
🦑 Exploring the Museum of the Man and the Sea 🐋🏛️
Our first stop was the Museum of the Man and the Sea—what a surprise! This museum, set inside a historic 1915 mansion, was full of cool displays: massive whale skeletons, an alien-looking giant squid, and so much Patagonian wildlife, both marine and terrestrial. The building itself had three floors packed with interesting info and beautiful views. Best part? Admission was FREE! If you’re in Puerto Madryn, this is an absolute must for anyone curious about Patagonia’s natural history.
🏖️ Beach Walks & Coastal Vibes 🌊🐾
Leaving the museum, we headed straight for the beach. Since a cruise ship was in port, the boardwalk was closed, but with the tide out, the beach stretched wide and empty. It was the perfect spot for a relaxing walk. The ocean breeze, wide sandy expanse, and a few friendly dogs gave us that laid-back Patagonian feeling before lunch.
🍤 Lunchtime at Cantina El Náutico | Puerto Madryn’s Seafood Institution 🦐🍷
Next up: seafood feast! We’d heard so much about Cantina El Náutico, so we went right as it opened—and wow, it fills up fast. For about $12 USD per person, we got an amazing lunch special that included an appetizer, main course, dessert, a drink (yes, wine!), and a bread basket.
Our starters: pickled calamari (tangy and surprisingly tasty!) and a stuffed tomato loaded with a creamy tuna and potato salad. For mains, we split two dishes: a seafood rice overflowing with shrimp, mussels, scallops, and squid, plus salmon baked in roquefort cheese with potatoes. Everything was generous and bursting with flavor—we honestly couldn’t choose a favorite, so we shared both! Service was quick, friendly, and the atmosphere was classic Puerto Madryn.
🍮 Dessert Delights & Best Value in Town 🍐🍮
Even after all that, we made room for dessert. We enjoyed pears in syrup—light, sweet, and just right after a rich meal—and a thick slice of house-made flan drenched in caramel. We agreed: this was one of our best value meals in Argentina. If you’re in town, don’t miss Cantina El Náutico for lunch!
🚶♂️ Walks, Waves & a Bit of Patagonian Fun 🏖️👣
Stuffed and happy, we took a long walk on the beach to recover from our feast. Dipping our toes in the icy Atlantic, we laughed at our “farmer’s tan” and soaked up every minute by the sea. The fresh air and quiet shoreline made us realize how relaxing life in Puerto Madryn can be.
