As you all know, President Tarore emerged in 2022 as a revolutionary leader, completely different from the old stock of African leaders. Captain Traoré has emerged as a prominent voice in the Sahel region, advocating for greater African sovereignty and a departure from traditional Western influence.
Like his predecessor, Sankara, Traore is an anti-imperialist and anti-neocolonialist. And, keeping with his anti-imperialism stance, Traoré evacuated French military assistance in the fight against the local insurrection in 2023. He later stated, "We really want to look at other horizons, because we want win-win partnerships," indicating his support for the diversification of Burkina Faso's international partnerships, which do not include France. In response to continuous claims in Western, particularly French, media that Ibrahim Traoré is a pawn of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he declared, "I know that France cannot interfere directly in our affairs."We now have American partners, and we can also have Russian partners, so it is no longer about France.”
