Lahore is the second largest city in Pakistan, famous for its historic and cultural heritage and important historic cites. Lahore reached its golden age during the Mughal Empire, when it was for a while capital and cultural center of the Empire. Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens are UNESCO World Heritage Sites as an outstanding examples of the Mughal art and architecture during the 16th and 17th centuries. Other important historic monuments in Lahore are the Badshahi and Wazir Khan mosques and the tomb of the Mughal emperor Jahangir.
