Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, formed in 1999.The band's debut album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, was dominated by punk and heavy metal influences, with screaming often used as vocals. The next album — Waking the Fallen was recorded in the style of metalcore, with elements of heavy metal in some songs. The band's third album, their most commercially successful (and first major label release), City of Evil, brought the sound closer to the classic sound of heavy metal. On December 28, 2009, the band's drummer, James Sullivan, died of acute intoxication caused by the combined effects of drugs and alcohol. Despite his death, the band continued recording with the help of former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who helped record the parts and toured with them in support of the fifth album Nightmare until the end of 2010 (the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 for the first time for the band).#AvengedSevenfold​​
