The Eagles were formed in 1971 in Los Angeles, California, consisting of initial members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon. Their music features a unique sound that blends smooth harmonies with country rock style. These characteristics laid the foundation for their significant success in the 1970s. In their early music career, the collaboration with Linda Ronstadt greatly influenced the Eagles, leading to several hit songs. Ronstadt's success provided opportunities for the Eagles, allowing them to become cultural icons beyond just a rock band. Their music is characterized by introspective lyrics, harmonies, and social insights. Their songs explore the relationship with the American dream, often shedding light on the darker aspects of life.

There were conflicts among the members. Leadon felt he was losing creative control as the band's sound shifted from the country style he preferred to rock and roll, resulting in tension with Frey. One night, it is said that he poured a beer over Frey's head and exclaimed, "You need to chill out, man!" Ultimately, Leadon left the band in 1975.
Another conflict arose between Don Felder and Glenn Frey, culminating in Felder's firing in 2001, which led to ongoing legal disputes. Additionally, Meisner left the band after 1977 due to health issues and was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit.
An incident known as the "Long Night at Wrong Beach" occurred in Long Beach, California, in 1980. Before the concert began, tensions between Felder and Frey escalated, and throughout the performance, they spoke of the violence they planned backstage. Eventually, Felder heard Frey say during the show, "I'm gonna kick your ass when we get off the stage."
In 2001, Don Felder was fired from the Eagles and filed two lawsuits against "Eagles, Ltd.", individual Don Henley, and individual Glenn Frey, alleging wrongful termination, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty, seeking $50 million in damages.
After Glenn Frey's death in 2016, the Eagles reunited in 2017, with Frey's son Deacon Frey taking on lead vocals for his father's songs.
