And land lay prostrate beneath the heavy pall of ash and sorrow.
The fields, once golden with the promise of harvest, trampled and soaked with the blood of uncounted dead.
The knights once proud found that their victory was their demise.
Were not their banners torn to ribbons by the cruel winds of victory?
Bereft of lords, their oaths dissolved to ash and scorn.
Oh wraiths of the desolation! Protectors now didst haunt graves unmarked
Graves of lovers.

Graves marked only by grass and tree and rust.
Forlorn vagabonds, clad in rusted steel and dreams undone, seeking the solace of shadows where neither name nor deed could follow.

Yet in the ruin of all things, there stirred a faint ember, smoldering with spark and deed yet.
A hope that, from fragments of noble and just cause, something new might be forged.
