Why Is This America's West Coast Region So Empty? #shorts

Why do so few Americans live in this huge area on the West Coast?
The West Coast of the United States is densely populated. Yet, there's a vast empty area in the
middle called the "empty West."
The empty West includes northern California and southern Oregon. This region is often called
the State of Jefferson.
The geography here features rugged coastlines, vast forests, and mountain ranges like the
Cascade and Sierra Nevada. It also includes the Great Basin desert.
Historical events like the Oregon Trail and the California Gold Rush led to population growth
nearby. However, the empty West remained mostly undeveloped.
Building large population centers in the empty West is hard due to its mountainous terrain.
There are also few flatlands for farming and limited trade and shipping options.
Efforts to create a new state called Jefferson have faced hurdles. The process of becoming a
state is complex.
