From the very first seasons to today’s internet-breaking moments, Saturday Night Live has a long history of queer representation. As the renowned comedy institution celebrates 50 years of on-screen hilarity, we’re taking a look back at some of the most groundbreaking queer moments which, for better or worse, made it to the SNL stage. In October 1975, SNL first premiered on American screens and, with it, debuted its first ever queer musical guest, Janis Ian. Although she wouldn’t come out as gay for another 18 years, SNL made queer history in its very first episode.
