While Bruce Lee is mostly known for his movies, he was also a passionate teacher. He also grew up learning from traditional institutions (martial art institutions) and then later was persecuted for his innovations and effort to bring martial arts to the West.

His method of "Jeet Kune Do" was to teach the fundamentals of self-defense, while encouraging and leaving room for students to adapt it into their own styles. He understood that we can't bind and cage our youth into just imitating the old, but that we learn from the past to add to the future.

Bruce Lee's teachings were an inspiration to me, and I still refer to them when mentoring students and interns.
