However, in recent times, some African leaders have proven that they can lead their countries without depending on Western financial aid. On Saturday, 23rd of November 2024, the European Union recalled its envoy from Niger following a disagreement between the European Union and the authorities in Niger. This was after the authorities in Niger had requested that the European Union replace its ambassador in the country, Salvador Pinto da Franca, following tensions over the disbursement of emergency aid. But what exactly happened? Why was there a disagreement between both parties? Well, some time ago, the European Union sent 1.3 million euros in humanitarian aid to Niger in order to help victims of flooding. In recent times, Nuger has experienced severe floods which have killed hundreds of people and displaced many others.
