
The Republic of Korea Navy has ordered nine Type 214 submarines, naming them the Son Won-Il class, but stipulated that they be built in Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. The first three boats began service in 2007, and the second batch of six units will begin to enter the fleet in 2012.
Armament: 8 533 mm bow torpedoes, 12 DM-2A3 "Seehecht" and DM-2A4 torpedoes, up to 24 bottom and up to 36 anchor mines instead of torpedoes
