Behind-the-scenes look at what's really involved with a live music gig. Long music gigs can typically be 3 - 5 hours of playing, but 7 or 8 hours of work with load-in, load-out, soundchecks, troubleshooting, etc.

After 700+ live gigs, I've gravitated to more to events that have a production team (or budget) where someone else is doing at least a bit of the heavy lifting. For us, it's a minimum of 2.5 hours of loading in all the gear and set-up (rigging cables, getting mains-lights-monitors in place, etc.). Then some troubleshooting before you play 3-5 hours...and then load for 1.5 hours (if all goes well).

So long music gigs are as much about the heavy lifting as they are live music!
