1-minute slice of Elvis history...On 13 August 1952 Big Mama Thornton recorded the original version of Hound Dog. It was one of Leiber and Stoller’s earliest compositions, with backing provided by the Johnny Otis Band.
In the summer of 1956 Elvis released his cover version. It gave him a massive international hit. In America he scored a #1 on all three Billboard charts, pop, country and R&B.
