The Nigerian Police Force has pledged to reduce the country’s crime rate by 50%, as announced during a town hall meeting in Borno State as part of National Police Week. Meanwhile, chaos unfolded in Lagos following the closure of the Independence Bridge for repairs, resulting in hours of gridlock. Surprisingly, Minister of Works, David Umahi, denied knowing about the decision, sparking criticism over accountability.
In the National Assembly, a deepening image crisis continues. Accusations of bribery during the Rivers State emergency declaration and claims of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio have further worsened public trust. At the same time, Rivers women are rallying for the reinstatement of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, rejecting the imposed state of emergency.
Additionally, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) invalidated the recall petition against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for failing to meet constitutional requirements, ending her recall process.
