Russian President Vladimir Putin is “very unlikely” to turn to nuclear weapons in his war against Ukraine, which appears to be escalating, Dr Matthew Sussex tells CNA’s Asia First. The associate professor at Griffith University’s Griffith Asia Institute, whose research specialisations revolve around national security and strategic studies with a particular focus on Russia and Eurasia, says it looks like Putin will instead wait for the return of United States President-elect Donald Trump, who has repeatedly threatened to cut off aid to Ukraine.
