Valiant Jupiter FireBorn: Why this one-off $7,000 axe was Perfecto de Castro’s top pick at #42GSFour

At 42 Gear Street Four, there was great guitar gear around every corner. So, when I asked Perfecto de Castro to show me the one thing that’d really caught his eye at the show, I knew it’d be something special. Behold the Valiant Guitars Jupiter FireBorn!

A one-off, jaw dropping design – in fact, perhaps the only thing quite as astonishing as the guitar’s looks may be the $7,000 price tag – the Jupiter FireBorn was hand carved by Valiant’s master luthier. The guitar’s body is alder, and the neck is maple, with every inch of the instrument being a part of what is part six-string, part artwork.

Valiant says the guitar was “scientifically re-calculated to maximize frequency responses” and improve comfort, with the best possible electronic parts being added afterwards to complete the project. This means, of course, that no expenses were spared, so you’ve got German-made Bill Lawrence pickups and hardware by the likes of Gotoh, Graph Tech and CTS, alongside Valiant’s own SWIFT-RS duralumin bridge with brass saddles.

This guitar is definitely not for the faint-hearted, and I’m sure lots of you will either love it or hate it on looks alone – a two-tone sunburst Strat, this is not! However, it’s an absolute joy to play, weighs next to nothing, and it has the effect of transfixing you when it’s in the same room – at least, that’s what happened to me!
