In Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP/ERP) therapy, "layering exposures" is our way of teaching clients how to combine two different exposures with the same theme (or not)! This strategy can increase both the intensity and hence, the effectiveness of the exposure.
For instance, if a client has Pedestrian OCD, we might design an exposure that involves driving while listening to crash sounds.
Overall, layering exposures is an effective technique used in ExRP to help individuals confront and overcome their OCD symptoms!
